ESB Energy Fuel Mix

The mix of fuels we’ve used in the generation of electricity

ESB Green Energy Desk v4 M

Our Commitment to a Renewable Future

For our new and renewing residential customers, as of 30 September 2019, all of the electricity we supply is matched to renewable sources such as wind, biomass, hydro and solar. Our plan is to go 100% green which is why we’re changing our fuel mix. We now offer customers great value, renewable electricity as standard.

Our green tariffs are backed by 100% renewable electricity and certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs). A REGO is a type of renewable certificate, supported by the government that ensures that your electricity is backed by a UK renewable source. We believe that, together, we can create a cleaner, low carbon future.

Our Fuel Mix

As of September 2019, ESB Energy will supply all new and renewing electricity customers with 100% green electricity certified from UK based wind and solar generators.

All suppliers are required by Ofgem to provide information about the mix of fuels used to generate the electricity supplied to customers, as well as any environmental impact.

There is no additionality in our tariffs. ‘Additionality’ is where energy suppliers offer other environmental benefits with their tariffs. For example, giving small donations to an environmental charity or planting a tree.

Although our tariffs currently don't provide for additionality, profits from ESB Energy are reinvested into our parent company, ESB Group. As part of our Brighter Future strategy, ESB Group is making substantial investments in wind energy in Great Britain.
